
St. Joseph’s General Hospital is a non-profit voluntary organization, a registered society, entirely owned and operated by the sisters of the Society of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Guntur Province, with its head quarters at Netherlands on those days and now in Rome. The seven JMJ Dutch missionaries from Holland arrived in Guntur on 24th February 1904 and opened a small dispensary. Later Dr. Sr. Mary Glowrey, a missionary from Australia, laid foundation for St. Joseph’s Hospital, Guntur in the year 1924 with three beds, which had developed steadily into a 250 bed hospital. St. Joseph’s Hospital is one of the first Catholic Mission Hospital in South India.
In 1904 a small dispensary was setup to cater to the health needs of the sick and suffering in present premises of ST. Joseph’s Hospital, Guntur.

In alignment with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India’s initiative, we are proud to have conducted a highly impactful CPR Awareness Week from October 13th to October 17th, 2025. As a DNB Institute recognized by the Government of India, we remain committed to improving healthcare education and promoting life-saving practices within the community.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Raghava Rao B Patruni, MD DNB who was the coordinator of DNB Courses aimed to raise awareness about Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and its critical role in emergency situations. CPR is a crucial skill that can make the difference between life and death in cases of cardiac arrest, and our goal is to empower individuals with the knowledge and ability to act swiftly in such emergencies. In this program Hospital Medical Director Rev. Sr. Dr. Annie and Mr. Sitaramaiah, Vice-Principal, Hindu College of Pharmacy, Guntur were participated.
